If you see her in interviews, Polly Jean Harvey is a quiet, although well-spoken, woman, kind and courteous. She was raised on a small sheep farm in London, and enjoys sculpting in her free time. This PJ Harvey is almost the antithesis of the wailing siren on Rid of Me, with her poignant, blues-tinged lyrics speaking of betrayal and lost love. She sings with the utmost passion, raising goosebumps on her listener. This album is truly brilliant, shining even amongst Harvey's other creations. 9.4/10

PJ Harvey created the whirlwind album Rid of Me in ‘93. Harvey’s savage vocals detail pain, lending the album a raw, bleeding feel. Even quieter songs such as “Missed” capture emotion and tug at memories in the listener’s chest. Any artist performing that task as deftly as Harvey defines badassery in my book. 9/10
